Book Week at the Blork Blog

Although I haven’t written about food much lately, this blog is identified by various categorization schemes as a “food blog.” As such, I have gotten on the mailing lists of a number of book publishers and they have been offering me free food related books in the hope that I’ll review, or at least mention, them on the blog. This seems like a fair deal, as I love books and the price is right. Also, it doesn’t conflict with my long established endorsements and sponsorships policy (see sidebar on the right, under “More Blork”) as long as I mention that the book was a gift of the publisher.

There’s only one problem; I hate reviewing books. That’s probably the main reason I’ve never written a novel, as low- and mid-selling novelists usually resort to book reviewing to make ends meet. (No, really; my lack of a novel has nothing to do with low ambition, questionable talent, and fear, fear, fear of rejection.) Fortunately, I’m under no obligation to review the books, but I feel an implicit obligation to at least mention them. I will do that; mention them and make a few comments, over the course of this week. It’s the least I can do. (No, really. It is the least I can do. Something tells me I’ll be off the mailing lists soon.)

  1. Aaah, Blork, don’t beat yourself up too much about feeling obligated to these people. I long ago gave up the noble notion of never accepting freebies from restaurants in return for a review, because no one pays me for the reviews. I just get some food, and believe me, I’d trash the place if I hated it. So why isn’t every resto in the city calling me? Dunno . . .

Yeah, and so what’s up with the novel already? We WANT a Blork novel. I’ve written twelve in my mind but I suffer from all the same fears you do.

There’d be lots of food in mine . . . and German spies, no doubt.

German spy food. What a concept.
