Street meme…
Ka-boom!
|
M and I were walking through Parc Lafontaine last night at around 10:00 pm and we discovered that you can see the fireworks from the hill on the north side of the pond. You can’t see the low ones, but the middle and high ones are in full view over the fountain. The only drawback was the street lamp, which was right in front of us, but at least we were higher than it, since we were up the hill.
When the show was over we walked towards home and saw a bunch of new Toyota Echo hatchbacks parked at the Toyota dealer on Rachel near Saint Hubert. The hatchback is new for this year, and unlike the rather silly looking sedan version, its a sweet little number.

M and I stopped to look, just as another couple and then a trio joined us. There were three Echo hatchbacks under the awning, with seven of us checking them out. Then somebody noticed that the hatchbacks were unlocked.
Next thing you know the doors are open, the hatchbacks are open, people are sitting in the seats, and everyone is chattering about the merits and shortcomings of the design. This was at 10:45 on a Wednesday night, and the dealership was long closed for the evening.
A few minutes later we all closed them up and moved on. It was like a small flash mob or some kind of spontaneous meme thing. (Aside: apparently the Echo hatchback — known as the Yaris in Europe — is available in Canada but not in the U.S.)
